Agricultural residues have a comparable calorific value than wood (for the same humidity. Nevertheless, they are generally characterized by higher levels of nitrogen, chlorine and ash. During conventional combustion of these by-products, for example in a grid boiler, high levels is observed in pollutants in the flue gases (nitrogen oxides, hydrochloric acid and particles). There is also slag formations that are the cause of malfunctions and high maintenance costs.
The COGEBIO® process is particularly suitable for these fuels because it avoids direct combustion and related high temperatures. It is a technology that does not promote clinker formation and provides lower pollutant emissions than conventional combustion.
